ABOUT THE FILM'S PRODUCER David Washburn began producing documentary films after years of conducting oral histories on topics relating to California's cultural history, such as the WWII Homefront, country music in the Bay Area, and Sikh immigration to the Central Valley. His last film, Broadcast Cowboy (2007), screened at film festivals throughout the country and on PBS affiliates in the Bay Area; it was awarded Best Documentary Short Film at the 2008 Cinequest Film Festival. In 2007, Washburn was awarded a fellowship in support of Central Valley artists to the Lucas Artists Program (Montalvo Arts Center), where he began pre-production of An American Mosque. He is a past recipient of grants from the Center for Cultural Innovation, California Council for the Humanities, and former Junior Fellow at the American Academy of Political and Social Sciences. He lives near Sacramento. |
